Hesitant in becoming a cosmetologist just because you feel you do not have the knowledge it takes? Do not worry! Cosmetology training expands over 1500 hours of training and includes both classroom and practical experience. Students progress from textbook theory to hands on practical application of knowledge during the training courses.
Classes in theory are included providing training in chemistry, sterilization and sanitation, safety precautions, as well as bacteriology and even a bit of anatomy and physiology. The cosmetologist will learn everything she/he needs to know about hair and skin….right down to the pores. Most schools offer in-depth courses pertaining to biology, chemistry and bacteriology. You will soon have the knowledge you need! You will be able to identify the layers of hair structure, learn about the structure and layers of the human skin and diseases and disorders of the skin. You will have knowledge in basic chemistry as it relates to cosmetology.
Along with the classroom hours you will also have hands on practical experience. Every hair style or cut, manicure, facial or hair coloring technique which you learn in the textbook classroom will be followed up with practical experience. You will have hours of opportunity to create hair styles, provide perms, do manicures and pedicures on real live human victims! The practical experience provided in cosmetology training is the opportunity to put to use all that you have learned, while you are still learning.
One of the most important aspects of a cosmetology career is the human aspect. Your training will also include human relationships, professional imagery, ethics and relationship building. Once you have completed your cosmetology training you will have a clear understanding of client expectations, customer service along with preventing and resolving conflicts. Your cosmetology training will provide you with the needed skills to be able to perform at your maximum potential.
