There are many different careers in cosmetology that you can decide to pursue if this is a career path that interests you. In fact, basically anything that has to do with helping a person look his or her personal best is included among the many different careers in cosmetology.
While some cosmetologists may choose to specialize in just one area of beauty, there are several areas in which a cosmetologist may choose to specialize. These include:
1. Cutting, trimming, and shaping hair or hairpieces
2. Combing, brushing, and spraying hair or wigs to a specific style
3. Bleaching, dying, or tinting hair
4. Attaching wigs or hairpieces
5. Massaging and treating scalps for remediation or hygiene
6. Administering therapeutic medications to the scalp
7. Recommending and applying lotions, cosmetics, and creams to help patrons achieve healthier and more attractive skin
8. Shaping and coloring eyelashes and eyebrows or helping to remove facial hair
9. Cleaning, shaping, and polishing toenails and fingernails
Those that pursue careers in this field generally do so because they enjoy helping others look their best and because they have a true passion for beauty.
As a cosmetologist becomes more established in the field, he or she can earn a larger income. This is mostly because patrons may be willing to spend a higher amount of money in order to receive the services that cosmetologist is capable of providing. In addition, some pick up extra money by picking up other jobs that are related to the field, such as teaching classes at nearby cosmetology or barber schools.
